What is
'Have you got 8 Minutes Mate?'

8 Minutes Mate is a simple, powerful way to reach out when someone is struggling. By asking, “Have you got 8 minutes mate?”, a person is saying they’re not okay and need someone to listen.

This code cannot be misunderstood.

If you receive this message, it’s not about having the right answers or fixing the problem — it’s about giving your time, your attention, and letting someone know they’re not alone. In just eight minutes, a conversation can interrupt overwhelming thoughts, create connection, and help someone get through the moment.

It’s peer-to-peer support at its most human: showing up, listening, and being there when it matters most.

I have written a song to highlight the need for an 8 Minutes Mate. We are also making a short film that we will be able to share with everyone soon.

The impact this can have is real. It really can save lives.

Our mission is simple.

We want  to encourage everyone to have an 8 minutes mate and be an 8 minutes mate.
